Covid-19 cases hit new record in New South Wales & Victoria

In another staggering jump in case numbers, New South Wales and Victoria both recorded the biggest daily cases of the Covid pandamic  just after one day folowing the previous record.

New South Wales has confirmed another day of rising and biggest daily tally of Covid cases, with 1599 new locally acquired infections and eight death recorded in the 24 hours . Yesterday, the state recorded 1542 new cases and nine deaths.

All of the COVID-19 patients who died were unvaccinated and had underlying health conditions, including a man in his 30s who died at his home in western Sydney.

More than 114,000 vaccines were also administered in the past 24 hours. There are currently 1,164 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 221 people in intensive care, 94 of whom require ventilation.

Victoria has reported 450 new cases of community transmission, biggest spike of the latest outbreak and only 75 of which are linked to known outbreaks.

The positive cases were detected from 42,765 test results and contact tracers have only been able to link 75 to existing cases.

Authorities have been increasingly concerned about the spread of Delta in Melbourne's north and west, with at least 299 of the 334 cases repored yesterday linked to those areas.

On Friday NSW Premier  Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the health team expected the peak number of infections to happen in the next week or so, based on recent modelling.

“So far this trajectory is what has been predicted,” Ms Berejiklian said.

The premier also announced the state’s road map out of lockdown earlier this week.
