Youngest Covid-19 death reported in Sri Lanka as 20day old infant dies

Sri Lanka recorded its youngest Covid-19 related death as a 20-day-old infant, who had contracted the virus, passed away on Tuesday (8)

The 20-day-old infant was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning in a critical condition with severe pneumonia and he was having difficulty breathing. Thereby, the infant who was immediately transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. The director of the Hospital Dr. P Wijesuriya said the doctors had given the baby artificial respiration using the ventilator and treated throughout the day.

After the doctors diagnosed that the infant is suffering from severe pneumonia, a  subsequent  PCR test has confirmed that the baby had contracted COVID-19.

It was further reported that the parents of the infants, who are residents of Grandpass area, were tested negative for the virus. The director added that the infant was the youngest person to die from the COVID-19 virus in Sri Lanka
