NSW isolation rules to last 90 days

New South Wales recorded a further 116 new cases of COVID-19 overnight, bringing the state’s total to 2,298, while the state's death toll sits at 10.

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian praised people for helping flatten the COVID-19 curve in Australia's worst-affected state. She says the slowdown in infections is pleasing but there's no room for complacency.

"The acceleration of cases in NSW isn't growing, which is a good thing," she told reporters on Thursday.

People in NSW are living under Australia's toughest coronavirus restrictions and police have the power to deliver on-the-spot fines of $1,000 to individuals who breach those rules. These rules will last for 90 days

“The state's tough coronavirus lockdown laws will be lifted in 90 days” according to the NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller.

There are 218 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health, including 42 cases in our Intensive Care Units and, of those, 22 require ventilators at this stage. More than 50 per cent of the remainder of cases being treated by NSW Health are through Hospital in the Home services.  

The 14-day isolation period for passengers from most cruise ships that came into Sydney, including Ovation of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas, Celebrity Solstice and Ruby Princess, is close to completion.

A Bondi Pop-Up Clinic started operation from today in Bondi in the Waverley LGA, which has the highest number of confirmed cases and the highest number of those with an unknown source of infection.

Finding those cases early and identifying appropriate isolation and quarantining are important factors in preventing onward transmission in the community. The pop-up clinic is at the Bondi pavilion seven days a week.

An 18 year old male student who attended Kincumber High School has been diagnosed with COVID-19. Risk assessment and investigations are underway and the school is non-operational today.

Three staff members at pizza store I Love Pizza at Mona Vale have also tested positive to COVID-19. While all close contacts have been confirmed and contacted and the risk is low, all customers who ate pizza from the store between March 20 and March 28 should monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.

NSW Health is providing information to keep the community informed about COVID-19 while also protecting the privacy of patients. We will keep providing information to the people of NSW as it becomes available.

NSW Health is alerting passengers who were close contacts on flights to monitor for symptoms, and contact their GP, but call ahead first, or call healthdirect on 1800 022 222, or visit a NSW Health COVID-19/Flu assessment clinic should they become unwell.
