Veteran Journalist and lyricist Camillus Perera passes away

Veteran lyricist and journalist Camillus Perera, who wrote many popular songs, has passed away at the ae of 74.

After being bed-ridden for a few years, Mr. Perera passed away  this afternoon (July 17) at his residence at Kalyani Road in Wattala.

Camillus Perera was the composer of more than 400 songs. Unmaada Vu Premaadare , Vikasitha Watha Kamale, Hada Vile Oba Pipuna, Deva Mandire, Aadara Priya Landune,  Hadisiye Hani Hanikata, Himi Nethi Pemakata, Wasana Wewa, Seetha Kandu Ralle are few of his songs which are much loved by Sri Lankans for decades.

Camillus was a popular journalist and Worked at the surathura, Sarasaviya and Dinamina specialising in films and arts. He has written hundreds of articles on so many artistes, beside writing songs. He was also a assitant director in several movies and many of his popular songs have won awards for the best male and female singers.

Final rites of Mr. Perera are expected to be performed at the Wattala Catholic Cemetery.
