NSW & VIC record zero corona virus cases

Both NSW and Victoria have recorded Zero new locally acquired corona virus cases this morning  from a combined total of about 65,000 tests in yesterday’s reporting period.

However, NSW recorded one new locally transmitted case that was confirmed on Thursday morning and will be officially included in Friday’s numbers.

NSW chief health officer Kerry Chant said the new case was connected to the northern peninsula in the norther beaches, where the Avalon cluster began.

In further good news, the mystery case that sparked concern in Victoria yesterday has been linked back to the outbreak on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Despite this, Woolworths, Dominos and Pizza Hut are among a slew of new venues in Sydney’s west that have been hit with a COVID-19 alert, with residents urged to get tested. The new venues of concern include the Wentworthville BWS, Domino’s Pizza, Woolworths, Green Farm Meat NSW Halal, Udaya Supermarket, Ambeys Big Apple, Sri Lakshmi Supermarket, Pizza Hut and Swagath Biryani House.

Thousands of people are still being urged to get tested in Melbourne due to a mystery case, who may have picked up his infection from either the MCG or stores in the Chadstone Shopping Centre.

Acting NSW Premier John Barilaro said zero cases was a "tremendous result", but noted the testing rates from the latest reporting period had dropped from the day before.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard announced the state would make masks mandatory for spectators at all large sporting events, including A-league matches.

Mr Hazzard said the decision was based on health advice and the rule would be introduced "in the next day or two".

It follows the requirement for spectators to wear masks at the third cricket Test at the SCG, which began today.
